Let’s talk about the first official wipe for Squires of the Bungus!
First off, BPs are not wiping. Although it may change in the future, we currently do not plan to wipe BPs any time soon. The only BP wipes that will happen as of this moment, are forced by FP.
Size
As we all know, the map we used this last wipe was exceedingly too big. My bad. ![]()
The map was selected by community vote on discord, and was reduced from size 6000 to 4500. For reference, our first map on the old server was 3000, so this is a decent mid way point (plus… trains).
Bandit Camp
Much like Harambe (RIP), Bandit Camp is gone due to the map that was selected. Because of this, I’ve added a Mini Helicopter Vender to the Outpost.
Noob Zone (NZ) and PVERP Zone
This wipe will have the NZ and PVERP areas in the top left corner of the map.
Both areas have been greatly reduced in size. If PVERP area does become more populated, we can add more area.
I took a lot more care with this to make sure that NZ had access to everything it needed for noobs to learn, while also being out of the way of most seasoned players.
While I was at it, I updated the whitelist for items that can enter the NZ. It should be all T1 items, but I may have missed some. If I did, please, put in a report (reports coming soon ™). May have also included things I shouldn’t have, soo good luck?
Veteran Zone
We’ve added a Veteran area. In this area, Veterans who normally have a Veteran Damage Debuff will have it removed. The Damage Debuff is also removed in all T3 monuments, as well as the Deep Sea. You can see the zone that they will have in the red rectangle below. Unfortunately, Rust doesn’t allow us to draw rectangles on the map like it does for the NZ or PVERP zones.
The community was VERY close on the vote, but I think this is the wiser choice in the end. I wanted to make the game less restrictive for the Veterans who already play at a disadvantage but still choose to be here.
I chose to add the T3 monuments as an area that will unrestrict them, because it’s already the content they will be running mostly, thus giving them options.
Deep Sea is also considered End-Game content, and while it is very fun for most people, it’s also very easy to say “If you go to deep sea, everyone is gloves off.”
Which is the same reason why they now have their own area, 1/3 of the map to be precise, to build and play in. This should encourage most Vets to want to build there, as they will no longer be at a significant disadvantage when defending their base from unrestricted players (cough noobs). This also means that noobs know to stay away.. unless they want to test their skill. Lastly, it will incentivize Vets to raid other vets. It is not currently a rule, but it is strongly encouraged for Vets to not raid outside the Vet zone. Let the noobs learn by fighting each other.. there will be some brave souls that come challenge you in the Vet Zone. Collect their skulls then.
I understand that some many not like that 1/3 of the map is now unrestricted for Vets, but think of it this way: You can visit 1/3 of the map with relative safety, compared to the Vet Zone where you are subject to the full Rust experience. Vets are welcome to play here, and they are 100% CRUCIAL to teaching noobs. We should make attempts to keep them here even with the restrictions that are placed on them, not be disappointed that they get an area of the map to play Rust the normal Rust way.
Team Size & Alliances
After much thought, deliberation (talking to my doggo), and a unhealthy consumption of Lava Squares, I’ve decided to limit team sizes to 6, and not to allow Alliances for now, in any form. It is both unfortunate and fortunate that this will only affect a few groups. With how small we currently are, it is detrimental to have large groups roaming or raiding across the entire map.
For now, there will be no alliances at all. You can be friendly, but you cannot assist in offensive, defensive, support, recon, or otherwise benefit another team outside your own for any reason. Legitimate trading is fine, but trying to bypass this rule in any fashion will have severe consequences.
It is my sincere hope that we grow quickly. If we start averaging higher populations, I will absolutely bump up team size back to 8, and then even allow alliances in some compacity with continued growth.
Server browser
Our server is now publicly viewable in the server browser! You can find it by going to “Modded” and searching for our server name as seen below:
After you have visited it at least once, you will be able to see it in your history and favorite the server.
Rust+
Yeah… that’s a no go. I have everything configured correctly, and have tested it at every level. It should be working, but it’s not. I’m hoping after tomorrows restart for wipe, it’ll work just fine, but I had to stop troubleshooting it, as I have loads of work to get done before the wipe, including these awful posts.
I will troubleshoot it some more soon!
Perks
We have updated how perks work and added a few new ones. Check it out!
That’s it! Thank you for playing with us, for teaching the noobs, and super kudos to our supporters. This website, the new server, the dev server, and a secret project I’m working on literally would not exist without our donators. Seriously, thank you. ![]()
